So something scary happened to our friends on Tuesday.
They have a baby just over 1 month old. Tuesday was the baby shower for the baby - everyone getting together and making freezer meals for her to use as needed. Well, an hr or so before the shower, Carri accidently dropped the baby and fractured his skull. The fracture was 9 cm long. They didn't need to do surgery because there was minimal blood between the skull and brain, and it was not getting worse. So they called at the local hospital here before the shower was to start. Joel took me to the church to tell the ladies at the shower and Joel went to go pick up Harrison, their other son who is a few months older than Jack. They had to take the baby to Billings to the bigger hospital.
Well, I will make a long story short. But we went ahead and had the shower anyways. That is, we made all the meals for them to have when they got home. It turns out that half of the meals were for me too! They know I'm moving and so it is hard to move and be preggos with a toddler so they gave me a week of frozen dinners, a scrapbook for the baby, and a few more items that are coming. I was totally surprised and humbled at their kindness. During this, Joel took the boys home and got them both to bed in seperate rooms. Joel was a star. He blows me away sometimes about how good he is - no complaining about it either.
Here is a picture of Harrison when we had him for a couple days when the baby was born:
The next morning gave me hope for Jack. When Harrison finally woke up (he slept in until 10:30), Jack ran and put a bunch of toys and clothes in the pack-n-play for Harrison to play with. They played with eachother through the net of the crib for awhile. Then I finally got enough nerve to change Harrison's rank diaper. Jack showed Harrison where to lie down on the floor, pulled out wipes for me to use, and gave me the clean diaper when it was time. When I said it was time for Harrison to eat breakfast, Jack quickly pulled out his chair and patted on it for Harrison to climb up. Once Harrison was in, Jack helped buckle him in, and put the try on for Harrison. He was such a big helper, and so caring for Harrison, making sure that Harrison had enough cereal and milk. These two boys have really become such good buddies. It did give me hope for Jack when little sister comes. It might take 6 months, but Jack really has some nurturing inside of him. It was too cute.
As for the baby, they are home and everything seems to be okay. They don't know about any long term damage, if any. Just a scary, scary thing.
